ECI XI
XI European Congress of Ichthyology

Location and Transportation

Tallinn is the capital of the Republic of Estonia and the home of the Estonian Marine Institute, University of Tartu. Tallinn has a population of 500,000 and offers a range of cultural and recreational opportunities prior to, during, and after the congress. The city is situated on the southern coast of the Gulf of Finland, just 80 km from Helsinki. Tallinn is easily accessible by ferries from Helsinki and Stockholm, by bus, train or car. Tallinn has a modern airport served by SAS, Finnair, Estonian Air and other companies directly or via Copenhagen, Helsinki, Frankfurt, London, Moscow.

Citizens of the most of European countries, USA, Canada and many other countries do not need entry visa.

By 2004, Estonia will probably be a member of EU. However, prices will still be lower than in current EU countries, which hopefully will increase the number of participating students and participants from Eastern Europe.
